KARACHI: EOBI extends date for amnesty

KARACHI, Oct 1: The Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Division has notified that the last date for availing the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) amnesty scheme has been extended from September 30 to November 15.

All those employers who have ten or more employees but are still not registered with the EOBI can get the benefit of this scheme by exemption from the payment of the previous contributions and other provisions of the act. This scheme would not be applicable to the employers against whom registration proceedings were initiated before July 1, 2002, a press release said on Tuesday.

There is no last date for the self-assessment scheme. The employer, by opting for this scheme, would have to pay a fix contribution of Rs150 per employee per month. The declaration made by the employer shall be accepted without any question, and there would be no record checking for two years — i.e. year 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.

The relevant forms for the amnesty and self-assessment schemes can be obtained from the regional offices or downloaded from the website, www.eobi.gov.pk.—PPI
