ISLAMABAD, Sept 30: Top seed Shahzad Khan advanced to the second round of the ITF Pakistan International Junior Tennis Championship I that opened at the Islamabad Club Monday.
Shahzad’s victim was Peshawar’s Shahid Afridi whom he beat in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in a well-contested match.
Other seeded players also scored victories with Sri Lanka’s second seed Harshana Godamanne of Sri Lanka blanking Junaid A Qureshi 6-0, 6-0 and Babar Ali Khan defeating Sohan Patrick 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in what was the best match of the day.
Sixth seed Kumail Hussain Rizvi outplayed Narucha Wannabovorn of Thailand 6-3, 6-1 while Shahrukh Niazi struggled to overcome the challenge of Janisar Ahmed 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
In the girls’ competition, Sri Lankan Nawchali Disilva walloped Muneezeh Shahid 6-1, 6-0 and Zarmeen Shoeb beat Anoosha Aslam 6-0, 7-5.
