Kutcha abadi dwellers seek ownership rights

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Sept 30: The All Pakistan Alliance of Kutcha Abadis held a protest demonstration here at the Tigri kutcha abadi.

The demonstrators were demanding ownership rights and protested against the harassment being meted out on them by a group.

The president of the resident’s organization, Haji Iqbal, while speaking at the gathering alleged that a sub-inspector and other members of the group were attempting to force the residents out of the land by threatening them with arrest on false charges.

The group wants to occupy the land for personal profit although the land actuality belong to the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, he added.

Mr Iqbal condemned the fact that armed men sent by the group came to Tigri at night time and fired in the air to scare the residents.

He pointed out that the government policy of 1985 and the subsequent policy announced by the present government in 2001 recognized the ownership rights of the residents.

He asked the president, Gen Pervez Musharraf, to uphold his promise and provide protection against the group.
