KARACHI, Sept 30: The process of admissions to various departments at the University of Karachi will begin in the third week of October, it was learnt officially.

The academic council of the university discussed the matters pertaining to admission to the new session at its adjourned meeting on Monday and resolved that advertisements in this regard would be issued to the press for the information of students before Oct 20, said a KU press release.

The exact dates in this regard would be issued by the KU admission committee, but the academic council has clarified that lists of students selected for admission to B. Pharm, BA, BSc (honours) would finally be released in the third week of Nov, while admission lists for Master’s classes would be issued in the second week of Dec.

The council, which met amidst teachers’ protest, also decided that teaching for the new academic session would start from Jan 1. It was also decided that the entrance test would be held for International Relations department.

According to a senior KU teacher, who in line with the Karachi University Teachers’ Society decision abstained from the meeting in protest against the alleged administrative irregularities, maintained that the meeting proceeded with about 55 participants although the strength of the body is around 170.

A spokesman for the university said the adjourned meeting of the council, which was presided over by vice-chancellor Dr Zafar Saied Saify, expressed confidence on the VC. It was for the first time that all deans of the university attended the meeting and assured the vice-chancellor of their cooperation.

The council also approved the proceedings of the board of advanced study and research held in Jan, March, May and June. Moreover, approval was accorded for introduction of BSC classes at Jauhar Degree College, and start of statistics as an optional subject at the PECHS girls college.

The council also decided that the four-year chemical technology programme at the university would be considered as equal to MSC and students would be eligible to apply for MPhil programme.

According to a KUTS press release, a majority of teachers from the university and colleges did not attend the academic council meeting, which, it said, was a clear referendum against the VC and as such Sindh governor should remove him for taking allegedly illegal measures on the campus.

Under the rules, it was necessary to maintain the quorum even for the adjourned meetings of the statutory bodies.

COMPUTER DEPT: Admissions to Bachelor of Computer Science, Master’s in Computer Science and Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science at the University of Karachi will begin from Oct 14.

A spokesman for the KU Computer Science department said on Monday that students applying for merit and donor (self-finance) seats could apply on the same admission form.

Admissions forms could be obtained between Oct 14 and 21 from the UBL counter, silver jubilee gate of the university, and would be accepted at the department during the same period, he said, adding that further details could be obtained from the website of the department - http://www.csku.edu.pk.—PPI
