KARACHI: Park across Quaid’s mausoleum planned

KARACHI, Sept 30: The Quaid-i-Azam Mazar Management Board, at its meeting here on Monday, chalked out a plan to develop a public park on the land across the mausoleum.

The meeting, presided over by Federal Minister for Environment Shahida Jamil, acknowledged the need for a green and environment- friendly area for Karachiites and observed that the plan would offer a proper recreational site to local children as well as adults.

“The site would be termed Peripheral of the Mausoleum and entry to it would be absolutely free of any charge,” said Shahida Jamil, adding that the idea was to develop a low-cost green area at the fastest pace.

The committee also constituted an Evaluation committee, comprising citizens of Karachi, to monitor the progress taking place at the mausoleum, with particular reference to horticulture and water works in its premises.

Ardeshir Cowasjee was chosen to be the head of the committee.

“We have worked out the terms of reference of the committee and intend to hold the meeting of the evaluation committee next month,” the minister said.

The meeting further decided to insert plaques with comments of local as well as foreign dignitaries about the Quaid- i-Azam during their visits to the mausoleum.—APP
