THATTA, Sept 28: The district monitoring team instituted an inquiry on Saturday into the alleged misappropriation in awarding 32 development schemes’ contracts. The irregularities surfaced after 36 contractors submitted their tenders on Sept 19 in connection with the Rs25 million ADP schemes and other projects. The schemes included road and bridge construction as well as cyclone heads.

The tender forms were allegedly brought to the residence of the district officer roads, Syed Altaf Hussain Shah and put into separate envelopes.

During the opening of tenders, which was performed in presence of the representative of the monitoring cell, the bidders witnessed that several envelopes contained more than one tender.

The representatives of monitoring cell immediately postponed the tenders and reported to higher authorities.

Later, a representation by contractors was moved to Sindh Governor who ordered an inquiry.

The signatories to the representation alleged that since last allotment of contracts of schemes under Khushhal Pakistan Programme had been carried out in a similar manner last year.
