MINGORA, Sept 28 : The principal of Saidu Medical College, Professor Dr Peer Muhammad Khan, has said the provincial government has solved the problems of the college and given approval for the appointment of teaching staff in the college.

Talking to Dawn here on Wednesday, he said that some 14 professors, 11 associate professors, 15 assistant professors, 15 senior registrars and fifteen lecturers’ posts had been approved.

But the college students continue to observe strike and are not ready to attend classes till the appointment of the teaching faculty on a permanent basis, together with the provision of all facilities.

The students have been on strike for the last many days against what they call “irresponsible attitude” of the authorities, “as evident in their neglect of the teachers’ requirement.”

The students are of the view that the college was generating revenue in millions every year, but their future was still at stake.

They have formed an action committee to launch a movement for the solution of their problems.

The committee members said the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) was yet to recognize the Saidu Medical College and the strike they were observing was against this decision.

They feared that if the PMDC did not recognize the college, they would not be able to get themselves recognized as doctors anywhere in the world.
