Spinners put Karachi Whites in command

KARACHI, Sept 27: Spinners Aftab Ahmed, Mansoor Ali and Faraz Khan shared nine wickets between them as Karachi Whites gained a valuable

91-runs lead over Sheikhupura on the second day of their three-day National Under-19 Grade-I cricket championship semifinal at National Stadium Friday.

Off-spinners Aftab (3-49), Mansoor Ali (3-24) and left arm spinner Faraz Ahmed (2-43) spun out Sheikhupura for 210 in 61.2 overs to take control of the match. Karachi Whites scored 301-8in their first innings.

When stumps were drawn for the day, Karachi Whites were 172 for three wickets in their second innings to increase their overall lead to 263 runs with seven wicket in hand.

Skipper Khalid Latif followed his hundred in the first innings with another fine knock of 66 with four boundaries and six while Asadullah Sumeiri contributed an enterprising 73 studded with 11 boundaries and a six.

The pair was associated in a 112-runs second wicket stand after Mubashir Ahmed had gone for 20.

Sheikhupura which resumed at their overnight score of 74 for one continued their good work and Nadeem Iqbal and Khalil took them to 120-1 but they collapsed to 210 against Aftab, Mansoor and Faraz.

Khalil departed after scoring a defiant 66 laced with 11 blistering fours. But Sheikhupura lost three wickets in seven balls with Aftab taking two and Faraz one to cause the slump in their batting.
