QUETTA, Sept 27: The Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) has discovered ground water resources in the aquifers of Chiltan Limestone at Murdar Mountain range, with a yield of over 14 cusec per day.

GSP Director-General Syed Hussian Gauhar informed this to Corps Commander Lt-Gen Abdul Qadir during his visit to the headquarters of the GSP here on Wednesday.

Mr Gauhar told the Corps Commander that the GSP in a joint venture with the B-WASA had also discovered another large source of water near Dara Dam at Takatu mountain. It had no apparent connection with the alluvial water sources of Quetta Valley.

“The GSP has all the capabilities and expertise to resolve the acute water shortage problem, provided the required funds and equipment are made available to it,” he assured.

“The GSP has submitted a scheme titled Accelerated Ground Water Studies in Balochistan at a cost of Rs147.275 million, to be completed in five years period. This proposed study will result in a better and comprehensive hydro-geological models needed for a successful ground water development strategy,” he informed.

The Corps Commander appreciated the level of expertise and commitment of the GSP staff in research. He also assured the department of all possible support in its efforts.
