Rs50m grant for Kohistan announced

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, Sept 26: Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Thursday announced a grant of Rs50 million for the development of the Kohistan district.

He was speaking to the Nazimeen, councillors and elders of the district at Dassu after laying the foundation-stones of the 210 bed district headquarters hospital and the district government secretariat building.

The governor said that Kohistan was one of the most underdeveloped districts in the province which needed human resource development on firm footings.

Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah asked the people to educate their daughters to have more women in the health and education sectors, else males would treat female patients.

Mr Iftikhar said that Kohistan was a beautiful district but it lacked facilities which was barring the tourism industry from flourishing in the area.

The governor said that the work on two intermediate colleges could be started soon if a sufficient number of students was available.

On the occasion, some Nazimeen held a demonstration to protest against the policies of District Nazim Maulana Obaidullah Jan.
