HYDERABAD: Folk artistes stage demo

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 24: A group of folk artistes staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday against the alleged excesses of the deputy director of the Mehran Arts Council, Hyderabad, Abdur Razzak Chandio.

They were led by Sharifan, the widow of a renowned folk singer, the late Faqir Abdul Ghafoor (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz), and her son, Sarwar Ghafoor.

Talking to newsmen, Sharifan said three years back the then secretary for culture, Abdul Hameed Akhund, had given employment to her son in the Sindh Museum and also allotted him a quarter at the Mehran Arts Council.

She deplored Chandio disconnected gas, electricity and water supply of the quarter and, she added, some articles were also stolen from the quarter.

She appealed for justice and demanded her gas, water and power supply should be restored.
