By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 22: Twenty-one vehicles — nine cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, police said.

Five cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Seven motorcycles were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

WOUNDED: Anti-social elements shot and wounded two men and a woman at a bus stand in Lyari on Sunday morning.

Three armed men came to a bus stand near Lea Market for extortion.

As a cashier of a transport company tried to put up resistance, the armed men opened indiscriminate fire while fleeing, injuring several persons at the bus stand.

The injured were identified as Fahmeeda, aged 60, Javed, aged 22, and Maqbool, aged 27. Fahmeeda, who came to the bus stand to see off a relation, suffered a bullet wound to her shoulder.

The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital. Maqbool was stated to be in serious condition as he had received a bullet wound to his chest.

He had been shifted to a private hospital, sources at Civil Hospital said.

Witnesses said that bullets also hit passenger coaches at the bus stand and their windscreens were damaged.

A police official said that witnesses identified one of the three armed men as Rustam, an associate of notorious bandit Babu Dacoit.

Following the incident, panic gripped the entire locality. Later, personnel of the law-enforcement agencies arrived at the spot.

However, a dispute arose between the police stations of Chakiwara and Kalakot over jurisdiction. FIR had not been lodged till our going to press.
