KARACHI, Sept 22: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s deputy convener and candidate for NA-250, Nasreen Jaleel, said at election meetings in various parts of the city on Sunday that the MQM would solve the problems being faced by 98 per cent of the people.

The party’s another deputy convener and candidate for PS-107, Shoaib Bokhari, said the manifesto of his party embodied solution to the common man’s problems.

Speaking at a meeting in Orangi Town, PS-94 candidate Abdul Quddoos remarked that without giving autonomy to the provinces in accordance with 1940 resolution, stability and progress of the country could not be assured.

He said MQM Chief Altaf Hussain had outlined a programme to bring about radical changes in the administrative system.

The party’s candidates from NA-252, 256, 243, 249 and PS-99, 116, 114, 110 and 111 also spoke at various meetings and highlighted their manifesto.

Meanwhile, the MQM coordination committee accused police and other law-enforcement agencies of carrying out raids and arresting party activists.

The party deplored the arrests of its two activists, Mohammad Kosar Khan and Saeed Adil, by the Landhi police between the night of Friday and Saturday.

It blamed the rival Mohajir Qaumi Movement for sabotaging its election campaign.

The committee appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and other authorities to take an urgent notice of such illegal steps and provocations.
