KARACHI: High tide season ends

KARACHI, Sept 17: The high tide season at the Arabian Sea ended on Sept 15, making 2002 the year of no casualty for Sandspit, Hawkesbay and Cape Monze due to extensive patrolling by the emergency rescue centre of the city government’s fire department.

Though a number of incidents were reported this year at Gidani, Clifton and Korangi Cantt areas but despite rush of visitors during the summer vacations all the incidents were averted at these distant beaches.

The life guards of the emergency rescue centre do not have the additional support from the life guards of the Pakistan Navy neither they have the legal cover of section 144 after introduction of the devolution of power system.

The official high tide season at the Arabian Sea is from mid May to Sept 15 after which the sea looses its ferocity, but a large number of Karachiites visit Hawkesbay, Sandspit, Paradise Point and Cape Monze till Oct 15, where the maximum number of visitors can reach up to fifty thousand, especially during summer holidays.—PPI
