ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: The export of manpower is likely to improve significantly as about 150,000 workers would be able to get overseas employment during the year 2002 due to the coordinated efforts of government and licensed overseas employment promoters.

According to a press release, issued here on Saturday, 14,088 people were registered with the regional offices of the bureau of emigration and overseas employment under the ministry of labour manpower and overseas Pakistanis during August, while 11,142 Pakistanis proceeded abroad for employment during the corresponding month of the previous year, registering an increase of 26.44 per cent.

Revenues, amounting to Rs17,706,900, were generated from the emigrating workers.

An amount of Rs14,709,450 was also collected as welfare fund and transferred to the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation. The amount of Rs6,237,500 was distributed as death and disability compensation/claims to 26 affected families.

The intending migrant workers are also advised to get a copy of the foreign service agreement duly registered with the protector of the emigrant’s office along with the copies of power of attorney and a demand letter from their respective overseas employment promoters in their own interest before their departure.

They may obtain a receipt of the amount paid to the overseas employment promoters concerned in respect of foreign employment, otherwise, any complaints, agitated at a later stage, will not be entertained.
