CBR to probe IT refund cases

ISLAMABAD, Sept 14: The tax authorities have prepared a comprehensive questionnaire for the inspection of the refund cases of income tax aimed at maintaining transparency in the system.

Official sources told Dawn that the questionnaire would require general information from the assessee with regard to assessment/computation of income, tax liability, refund process and other relevant matters.

Through the questionnaire, the auditor would detect the refund cases, which have been decided without proper application of laws and procedures.

It would also help in finding out the cases of no-levy of additional taxes, proper monitoring of withholding taxes and low quality of assessment, the officials said.

The sources said that around 1200 complaints about poor assessment have been received, hence this questionnaire.

Elaborating further the officials said that the questionnaire would contain questions regarding name of assessee, status, books of accounts audited, income year to which report relates to, assessment year to which report relates to, income declared normal, income assessed normal, whether 143-B was filed along with normal return of income, copy of computation of income sheet attached with return be made part of this report.
