Dryport at Islamabad to be opened soon

ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: A dryport at Islamabad railway station, situated at sector I-9, will be inaugurated soon.

This was stated by the spokesman for railways here on Friday.

He said the total earnings of the Pakistan Railways during the current financial year has increased to Rs1.18 billion, which is Rs113 million more as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.

He said during the month of July two locomotives of 2000 HP were rehabilitated at Pakistan Locomotive Factory, Risalpur and Rehabilitation Shops Moghalpura, under the project of rehabilitating 48 locomotives.

So far, 17 locomotives have been rehabilitated under this project, he added. The spokesman said Sialkot railway station would be upgraded and a plan was under-consideration for the establishment of a shopping mall at the station with an aim to generate revenue for the Railways.

“Railcar service between Sialkot and Rawalpindi will be restarted from October this year and it will be a non-stop service with rehabilitated coaches,” he said. — APP
