OKARA, Sept 12: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool on Thursday inaugurated remodelling project of the Lower Bari Doab Canal at Kot Bari, about five kilometres east of the city, on the GT Road.
The governor said the project would be completed with an expenditure of Rs7 billion. The capacity of the LBDC would be increased to 10,000 cusecs from 6,750 cusecs and it would minimize the risk of breach, he said.
Earlier, the governor, while addressing a gathering at Renala Khurd canal park, said the government would distribute zakat funds among the deserving people.
On the public demand, he said the government had provided sui gas to Renala Khurd town at a cost of Rs50 million, adding spadework for this purpose would start within a fortnight.
He distributed cheques of Rs2,500 each among the deserving people. He also distributed proprietary rights deeds among the shelterless.
SAHIWAL: The governor inaugurated the provision of sui gas to the residents of grain market. He said the project would be completed at a cost of Rs2 million and another Rs1 million were in the pipeline for this purpose.
During his address at the Sahiwal sports ground, he said 50,000 to 60,000 people would be provided jobs through zakat funds. The government was set to provide 100,000 plots among the needy under the Jinnah Abadi scheme, he said.
The governor ordered establishment of an agriculture college in Sahiwal and promised neuro-surgery unit at the District Headquarters Hospital.
