GUJRANWALA, Sept 12: PML-N and PPP’s local leadership is facing problems after the rejection of nomination papers of their aspirants for two provincial assembly seats.
The candidatures of PML-N’s S.A. Hameed for PP-93 and PPP’s Ilyas Naveed for PP-91 were rejected by an election tribunal comprising Justices Najamuz Zaman and Pervaiz Ahmad.
The PPP local leadership held a meeting on Thursday and declared Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Kamboh as its candidate for PP-91, while the PML-N has yet to decide about its candidate as two aspirants Khwaja Ghaur Naik and Imran Khalid Butt have filed papers for PP-91. PML-QA nominee is Shaikh Muhammad Akbar.
On the other hand, the PML-N is facing a split in PP-93 after the rejection of nomination papers of its strong candidate, S.A. Hameed, and it will benefit the PPP as its aspirant, Mian Muhammad Arif, belongs to Ansari biradari which is in majority in this constituency.
The PML-N is reportedly considering to allot ticket to District Bar Association general secretary Imtiaz Noor who has already submitted his papers as an independent candidate. The PML-QA has so far not decided about its candidate as it is still reviewing the political situation in the constituency.
Meanwhile, the PML-N leadership withdrew an aspirant for the PP-96, DBA president Mian Maqsood Ahmad, and allotted party ticket to an independent candidate, Shaikh Naeem Ahmad Hashmi.
The PPP and the PML-QA have fielded their candidates, Chaudhry Shabbir Ahmad and Muhammad Ashraf Butt, respectively, for this constituency. However, the political position of Shaikh Naeem is stated to be strong.
Meanwhile, the PML-N has allotted party ticket to Khwaja Ghaur Tariq Naik for PP-91.
CHATTHA: PML-C chief Chaudhry Hamid Nasir Chattha has said his party will never boycott the elections.
Speaking at a party meeting in Wazirabad on Thursday, he said the PPP had boycotted the 1985 elections and its leadership felt of its mistake later.
