ISLAMABAD, Sept 10: The candidates of major political parties contesting for two NA seats in Islamabad on Tuesday continued their efforts to win the support of rural population.
The PPP candidate for NA-48, Dr Babar Awan, speaking at different election meetings in Golra, Pind Sangrial and G-9/2 promised the he would protect their rights of people and save them from the highhandedness of police and revenue department.
Mian Muhammad Aslam, a candidate of Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) for NA-48 while speaking at a meeting in Sri Saral, condemned the CDA operation.
He said the operation was “illegal” as the CDA officials had admitted that the Authority had yet to clear the dues of several villagers.
He called upon the government to allot residential plots to all the affected persons and compensate relatives of the deceased and the injured ones.
He also criticised the previous governments, whose functionaries he claimed had focused all of their attention on “loot and plunder” and had left the people at the mercy of “plunderers, hoarders, dacoits, abductors and corrupt elements”.
The PML-N candidate for NA-49, Dr Tariq Ali, while speaking at a meeting in Charah, said if elected, he would resolve all the problems of the rural areas.
He said the people knew it well that the PML-N government was dislodged as a result of deep-rooted conspiracy, therefore, people supported it in every nook and corner of the country. The MMA would be elected with great majority, he added.
The Tehrik-i-Insaf candidate for NA-49, Rab Nawaz Chaudhary, speaking at an election meeting in Taramri said if elected he would provide all the basic necessities to villages of the capital.
He said a dedicated and dynamic person like Imran Khan could lead the country in the right direction.
ARRANGEMENTS: Returning officers of the two constituencies of national assembly in Islamabad NA-48 and 49 on Tuesday sent their reports regarding arrangements of election- 2002 to Provincial Election Commission (EC) Punjab.
A source from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration told Dawn the returning officers visited various polling stations established in the capital.
They approved 385 polling stations in both constituencies in Islamabad.
The reports contain all the information regarding arrangements of polls jointly made by the ICT administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Capital Police.
The reports said the government had released Rs2.6 million for elections.
