HYDERABAD, Sept 9: A large number of residents of Matiari under the banner of the Matiari Ittehad (MI) staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Monday to protest against the reinvestigation of the murder case of Abdul Sattar Sand by the DSP of Badin.

The protesters, led by PPP leader Zahid Memon, raised slogans against Pir Mujadid Sarhandi, Ali Bux, Master Shamsuddin alias Pappan Memon, and Sindh Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, on whose insistence the case was being reinvestigated by the Badin police.

Five protesters — Aslam Sand (Abdul’s uncle), Aqil Khaskheli, Rashid Mallah, Eijaz Dhamach, and Mehboob Mallah (Abdul’s friends) — threatened to commit self-immolation if the case was not transferred for re-investigation to the DPO, Hyderabad, A. D. Khwaja within five days.

It may be pointed out here that Sattar Sand had been kidnapped by a dacoit, Mashooq Brohi, more than 17 months ago and was killed.

WATER SHORTAGE: A group of growers of Tando Allahyar Taluka staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Monday to protest against the acute shortage of water in Hadeki minor.

They were led by Thakur Nazeer Khan and Mohammad Qasim, the Naib Nazim of union council, Piyaro Lund.

They told newsmen that not a drop of water was available in the minor since the last six months. They said that their standing corps had been destroyed due to the shortage of water.

They alleged that the sub-engineer concerned was demanding money for providing them water.

They said that they had met with the senior irrigation officials but in vain.
