Refund ordered

ISLAMABAD, Sept 9: Federal Tax Ombudsman Justice Saleem Akhtar has ordered the Collector Sales Tax and Central Excise (West) Karachi to ensure refund of Rs5,468,808 CED to the complainant within 15 days.

However, the payment of refund is subject to filing by the complainant before the FTO a certificate of their Chartered Accountant certifying that the central excise duty for the period 1983 to 1987 was neither charged nor passed on to the customers.

This recommendation was made by the FTO while hearing a case on the complaint of M/s Atlas Battery relating to the refusal of the Sales Tax and Central Excise Department to refund the said amount, recovered as central excise duty under the threat of closure of the factory, according to a press release issued here on Monday.—APP
