PBF warns POA of contempt notice

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Sept 7: Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) secretary Aamer Hayat Khan Rokhri has warned Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) of a contempt of court notice in Supreme Court if it does not grant the federation affiliation.

PBF secretary said Saturday that fresh elections of the federation were held on July 12 at Islamabad under the supervision of Pakistan Sports Board on the instructions of the Supreme Court in which all affiliated units of PBF participated. Mohib Asad and Rokhri were elected as president and secretary of the PBF.

Rokhri contended that after these elections the old body under Sarfraz Ahmed ceased to exist. Supreme Court had further directed that if anybody had grievances against the new body, they could approach the Supreme Court, Rokhri said.

Rokhri pointed out that secretary POA was informed of the result of the elections but had not responded so far and instead termed the participation of Pakistan badminton team in the Asian Games as doubtful as according to him there were two federations and matter was in civil court to determine their genuineness.

Rokhari refuted this claim stating that there was only one federation working in the country of which he was the secretary general. If secretary POA continues to put obstacles in smooth running of this federation it would have no option but to move an application for contempt of court in Supreme Court, he said.

He futher advised the POA secretary not to damage the game of badminton by his blind support to ex-secretary PBF Sarfraz Ahmed who was also the treasurer of POA, a post he was not in a position to retain as his nomination from Pakistan Badminton Federation to POA had been withdrawn by president PBF Syed Mohib Asad.
