MMA to resume train march today

Published September 7, 2002

LAHORE, Sept 6: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) announced here on Friday the resumption of its train march from Saturday, in spite of the government’s reported threat of declaring its participants ineligible for the October elections.

The Punjab home secretary had issued a warning to the MMA leadership on Thursday to desist from the march or face disqualification from the elections.

“Undeterred by the threat, the MMA will resume its train march at any cost,” MMA Central Information Secretary, Pir Ejaz Hashmi, told a news conference here on Friday.

He urged the Election Commission to take notice of the government threats. He said, the railways minister had permitted the train march and the home secretary had no right to stop it.
