HYDERABAD, Sept 6: The president, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Allama Shah Ahmed Noorani, has said that if the MMA reached the corridors of power it would change foreign policy, improve economy, raise the living standards of the people, and introduce reforms in education and other sectors in accordance with its manifesto.

He said after killing tens of thousands of innocent Muslims in Afghanistan, the US was now looking at Iraq to capture its oil resources and after Iraq it would target Libya, Sudan, and then Saudi Arabia.

He disclosed that the MMA would begin its “train march” from Lahore on Saturday (today) that would culminate at Hyderabad on Sept 8.

Addressing the general workers convention at the station road on late Thursday night, the MMA chief said that the US wanted to take control of the first Muslim atomic power that’s why its forces had landed in the country.

He said that the MMA has vowed to get rid of the US occupation when it comes to power.

He said that it was only the MMA which spoke against the US whereas the other parties spoke the language of the US for their own interests.

He questioned the government’s decision to become a frontline state in the US war against terrorism and branded the US as a terrorist state.

Mr Noorani pointed out that it was the United States which had brought the Indian forces on the eastern borders after entrenching itself within Pakistan under a planned strategy to do away with our atomic programme.

In an obvious reference to the Muttahida Quami Movement chief, Altaf Hussain, he said that the MMA leaders did not obtain the citizenship and passport of Britain as they have to live here and serve the people.

He urged the people to elect MMA candidates.

Referring to the government’s claim of big foreign reserves, he said that dollars were being purchased after printing currency notes in large numbers and the people were being informed that the foreign reserves had increased.

Mr Noorani pledged to eliminate the interest-based banking system in the country, which in his opinion was the root of all evils.

POLICE OFFICIALS WARNED: The district police officer (DPO), Hyderabad, A. D. Khwaja, has said that if police officials were found to be involved in the kidnapping case of Surgeon Mohammad Hussain Leghari they would be sent to jail.

Responding to the queries of journalists at his office following the release of two hostages, Haji Amoon Katiyar and Haji Hussain Bux Sathio, he said that he had heard of some controversies concerning Leghari’s kidnapping.

He said that he would first meet Dr Leghari before handling the case.
