OUR REPORTER ADDS: Talking to mediamen after attending the oath-taking ceremony. the PTDC chief said Pakistan and other countries were being negatively portrayed by the Western countries after the 9/11 incident.
He said apart from Pakistan, Middle East, China and Korea were also victims of biased portrayal by Western media and attitude, thus damaging the image as well as the tourism departments of these countries.
The West including the US are not free of terrorism but it is their media that does not highlight the incidents and instead focussed the attention of the world on other regions of the globe. Unfortunately, Pakistan was one of them.
Mr Bajwa asked various institutions including media to play their due role in promoting tourism internationally, which according to him was the only way to revive the industry and earn revenue for the country, which was facing economic hardship for many years.
He said steps must be taken to improve law and order situation in the country, adding that they were making efforts to attract tourists by improving facilities for them.
When asked, if PTDC motels and hotels would be privatized, he replied that it would not serve to privatize them. Instead, it was important to put an end to land mafia working in these areas, which would help enhance the services of these motels and hotels.
