LAHORE, Sept 2: Thirteen appeals were filed against the decisions of returning officers in respect of rejection or acceptance of nomination papers of the candidates at the Lahore High Court on Monday.

Three election tribunals constituted under Section 14 (5) of the People’s Representation Act 1976 in Punjab will start hearing of the appeals from Tuesday.

Only two appeals have been fixed for hearing before the Election Appellate Tribunal No. 1 comprising Justices Tassadaq Husain Jillani and Abdul Shakoor Paracha. Both the appeals have been filed by Hafiz Abdul Rauf against returning officer Akhtar Masood Khan.

Only one appeal filed by Chaudhry Muhammad Rauf Khalid against RO Muhammad Afzal Sindhu has been fixed for hearing before Election Appellate Tribunal No. 2 comprising Justices Raja Muhammad Sabir and M. Naeemullah Shir Wani.

Election Appellate Tribunal No. 3 comprising Justices Mian M. Najamuz Zaman and Pervaiz Ahmad will hear 10 appeals filed by Faisal Masood Bhatti against RO Chaudhry Fazal Husain, Muhammad Ayub against Asghar Ali Gill and Chaudhry Riasat Ali, Mansoor Sarwar Khan against Ijazul Hasan, Sarfraz Ahmad against RO Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, Najaf Abbas Sial against RO Malik Noor Muhammad Awan, Qari Muhammad Sadiq against RO Raja Muhammad Akhtar Zaman, Syed Mushtaq Husain against Tariq Bhandi, Maulana Muhammad Ghiasud Din against the returning office (two petitions) and Syed Shabbir Husain against the returning officer.

Aggrieved candidates have been allowed to file appeals against the decisions of the returning officers up to Sept 6. The tribunals will decide the appeals by Sept 13.
