Man injured by dacoit dies in hospital

FAISALABAD, Sept 2: The man who was injured when a dacoit threw a brick at him while escaping after trying to loot a house in Allama Iqbal Colony, died in the Allied Hospital here on Monday.

Police said the deceased, Allah Rakha, was a neighbour of the local trader, Usman Malik, whose house the dacoits had targeted. Mr Malik was shot dead by the unidentified bandits when he tried to put up resistance. Mr Rakha had tried to overpower the fleeing culprits.

Scores of locals blocked traffic on various city roads to protest against the police failure to maintain law and order. A dozen sustained injuries when police baton-charged the protesters on Sunday.

According to the police, a team has been constituted under the DSP Peoples Colony to trace the dacoits, against whom a case has also been registered.

Meanwhile, another shopkeeper, Maqsood Ahmad, was shot dead by unidentified men who had tried to loot his house in Hajveri Town in the jurisdiction of Sargodha Road Police Station. The killers fled the place after committing the crime and were at large till the filing of this report.
