Attacks on minorities condemned

KARACHI, Sept 2: Concern has been expressed over recent attacks on minorities places of worship.

Speaking at a press conference, organized by the Justice and Peace Commission, at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, the representatives of the minorities demanded safety and security, so that such incidents were not repeated again.

They also demanded that all discriminatory laws be reviewed and abolished. They said that curriculum with propagates love, peace, harmony, tolerance, co-existence be introduced.

Scholars, artists, poets, etc belonging to the minority communities be brought on the official electronic media. They said minority communities be given due representation in the parliament and other walks of life.

They said though some political parties had given tickets to the minority community members, it was not enough and more representation be given to them and that minority members be brought up in the decision-making process of the political parties.

Aftab Alexander and Father Pascal Robert of Justice and Peace, Zafar Iqbal of Idara Amn-o-Insaf, Asarmal Manglani of Sikh community, Eng Ahuja S. Lal of Hyderabad Hindu Panchayat, Pandat Gurdas of Sanatin Welfare Society spoke at the press conference.
