FAISALABAD, Sept 1: A returning officer rejected on Sunday nomination papers of two candidates, including ex-MNA Safdar Rahman, during scrutiny.

Mr Rahman had reportedly failed to pay Rs589,000 he owed as an entertainment fee and property tax of his cinema. Returning Officer Wamiq Javed rejected his papers for NA-79.

The nomination papers of Ghareeb Party Pakistan Chairperson Advocate Mehwish Chaudhry also were rejected from PP-69 as her proposer was not an eligible voter of the same constituency.

Meanwhile, the ROs concerned cleared the papers of a number of candidates.

SAHIWAL: The RO concerned allowed three candidates to provisionally contest election from PP-220, Sahiwal-I.

Retired Judge Mehr Mazar Muhammad Fatiana, a Millat Party candidate for PP-220, had objected to the candidature of Pir Walayat Shah Khagga and his covering candidate Pir Abdul Rashid Gillani of the PPP.

He alleged Pir Walayat had used unfair means to get through the BA examination and a case was registered against him. He said the university’s disciplinary committee was yet to decide his fate. The court allowed his provisional participation in the election.

His covering candidate claimed he had approached the university for the result card and was awaiting the reply. The court allowed him to contest election provisionally.

Mr Fatiana was also allowed to contest provisionally as his period of joining politics after retiring from a government job was challenged.

KASUR: APP reports papers of four candidates were rejected on Sunday while the fate of PML-Z President Ijazul Haq, Faaiz Rahim, Shaukat Ali Dogar of PPP and Habibullah Khan will be decided on Monday (today).

MIANWALI: APP adds a district returning officer rejected the papers of two candidates and accepted the papers of four in Mianwali.

The RO rejected the papers of Amir Abdullah Khan Pannukhel for having the BA degree of madressah not certificated by the University Grant Commission. The papers of Sardar Bahadur Khan Babar were rejected for false declaration.

Those cleared are Dr Sher Afgan Khan, Gul Hameed Rokri, Inamullah Khan and Syed G M Shah. The fate of Imran Khan, Obaidullah Khan Shadikhel and Amir Hayaat Khan Rokri would be decided on Monday (today).
