HYDERABAD, Sept 1: Tension prevailed in some pockets of PS-46 — the stronghold of the Muttahida Quami Movement — as Muttahida and Mohajir Quami Movement geared up their election campaign on Saturday.

The areas which are in the grip of hectic political activities such as flag hoisting, wall chalking, etc., are Gari Khata, Khokhar Mohallah, Bhai Khan ki Chari, and Resham Gali.

According to witnesses and residents of Khokhar Mohallah and Kohinoor Chowk, two minor unpleasant incidents have so far taken place when the activists of the two parties tried to hoist their party flags.

The first incident occurred when a rally of the Muttahida, led by Syed Afzal Shah, hoisted its flags as well as those of the Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz in Khokhar Mohallah. However, the flag of the JSQM was removed by some people leading to a tension.

The Muttahida activists then passed through Kohinoor Chowk where the activists of the Mohajir Quami Movement sit till late in the night.

A witness said that in the second incident, a Muttahida activist was asked not to tie the rope for hoisting his party flag in a building where the Mohajir Quami Movement was scheduled to hoist its flag. However, nothing happened at the time.

Later, the activists of the Mohajir Quami Movement and the Muttahida quarrelled among themselves on the issue of hoisting party flags in the Gari Khata area. However, luckily no violence took place.

The zonal offices of both the factions of the MQM are located at Bhai Khan ki Chari, which has become the hub of election-related activities.—Correspondent
