Imran’s degree questioned; Shujaat, Mukhtar cleared

Dawn Report

GUJRANWALA, Aug 31: The academic degree of Imran Khan from Mianwali was questioned and the nomination papers of PPP’s Khawaja Saleh were rejected from Gujranwala while those of stalwarts like Chaudhry Shujaat and Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar were cleared from Gujrat on Saturday.

In Gujranwala, the nomination papers of PPP’s Khawaja Saleh for NA-96 were rejected on the grounds of being a defaulter.

A PML-N aspirant, Khurram Dastagir Khan son of former MNA Ghulam Dastagir Khan, had raised an objection against Saleh that he was the defaulter of banks. After seeking bank records and statements of ABL’s senior officers, the RO rejected the nomination papers of the strong PPP candidate backed by Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar of Gujrat.

It was another set back for the PPP after the rejection of papers of its leader, Ms Benazir Bhutto.

SIALKOT: The former PML-N MPA and the PML-QA candidate for PP-131, Chaudhry Azeem Noori Ghuman, moved the Lahore High Court against the rejection of his papers.

The Daska RO had rejected Noori’s papers by terming his degrees not equivalent to the graduation.

SARGODHA: Nomination papers of former MPA Malik Saleh Muhammad Gunjial were rejected for PP-40 (Khushab).

He produced the Fazil-i-Arabi certificate issued by a Mardan religious institution which was not considered as equivalent to the graduation degree.

Meanwhile, the nomination papers of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain were also accepted for NA-74 (Bhakkar) after getting the information from Gujrat that he was not a defaulter.

MIANWALI: The academic degree of PAT chairman Imran Khan was not accepted and he was asked to get it verified from the University Grants Commission by Sept 2.

Similarly, Aamir Hayat Rokhri of PML-QA and Obaidullah Khan Shadikhel also of PML-QA were also given the time till Monday to produce their clearance certificates. Rokhri is an alleged defaulter of Rs18 million while Shadikhel has made a bargain with the NAB.

However, Amirabdullah Khan Punnukhel’s MA degree, which he got from a religious school, was not accepted.

OKARA: The RO accepted the nomination papers of PPP candidate Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna for PP-190 after verifying his academic degree.

GUJRAT: The RO accepted the nomination papers of Chaudhry Shujaat, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar for NA-105, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Mian Afzal Hayyat for PP-106, Mian Fakhar Pagganwala, Mian Imran Masood for PP-110, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Tariq Javed Chaudhry for PP-111.

Meanwhile, the papers of PPP’s Chaudhry Akhtar for PP-112 were rejected after his BA degree was found bogus.

BAHAWALPUR: Nomination papers of former parliamentary secretary Samiullah Chaudhry, now a PML-N candidate, and PML-N secretary-general Mahar Muhammad Iqbal for NA-185, PML-QA’s Qayyum Azam for PP-271 and PP-272 were rejected.

Their papers were cast away owing to their involvement in a contempt of court case in which they had tendered unconditional apology.

Earlier, the nomination papers of former MPA Afzal Gill for PP-274 were also rejected on the same ground.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Nomination papers of Dr Anwarul Haq, son of former president late Gen Ziaul Haq, were rejected because he did not appear in person before the RO.
