KARACHI: Eight cars, 15 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Aug 31: Although police have been on high alert for the past couple of weeks with intensified patrolling of city streets, bandits took away as many as 23 vehicles — eight cars and 15 motorcycles — in various parts of the city on Saturday.

The police are on high alert in view of the anniversary of Sept 11, and the joint snap-checking of vehicles by the military police, naval police, rangers, district police and traffic police is being carried out for the last 15 days on Sharea Faisal, near the military installations, but the bandits found least resistance in taking away 23 vehicles in a day.

Innocent citizens, including families, travelling in their private vehicles, are being stopped by officials of the joint teams at various points on Sharea Faisal, near Kashif Centre, the Regent Plaza Hotel, etc, and they are being harassed under the pretext of checking vehicles’ documents. On the other hand, the bandits hijacking vehicles sped pastthem unchecked.

The bandits hijacked three vehicles and stole five others in various areas. Seven motorbikes were hijacked and eight others stolen in localities including Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Saddar and North Nazimabad.

BODIES FOUND: Six bodies were found at various places in the city. The dead appeared to be drug addicts, the police said.

The bodies were sent to different hospitals for their autopsies where none of them was identified. The bodies were kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

Police said the bodies of apparent drug addicts were found in the police limits of Clifton, Chakiwara, City Courts, Napier, Artillery Maidan and Kalakot.

MURDER: A woman was found dead in his house in Gizri on Saturday.

Police said the body of the woman, identified as Christina Alameda, 55, was found in her house in upper Gizri. She livedalone. She was found trussed up and her mouth tapped. She appeared to be strangled, the police said and added that the body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The motive for the killing could not be ascertained immediately and it would be clear after a thorough investigation, the police added.

BODY FOUND: A woman was injured, and succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in New Karachi, the police said.

The woman had marks of injuries on different parts of her body and she was first taken to a private hospital in New Karachi, where she died. Her body was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

The police said it could not be ascertained as yet whether the injuries were caused by a road accident or she was killed. The identity of the woman, in her 60s, could also not been established, the police added.
