KARACHI: Trains delayed for hours

Published August 30, 2002

KARACHI, Aug 29: Almost all trains were delayed by two to four hours between the Landhi and Karachi cantonment railway stations on Thursday due to reasons best known to the railways authorities.

The Chenab Express coming from Peshawar via Sargodha and Faisalabad and the Khyber Mail coming from Peshawar via Rawalpindi and Lahore arrived here two and half hours behind the schedule.

The Zakariya Express coming from Multan arrived three and a half hours behind schedule. All these trains had been running on time up to the Hyderabad station, but they were detained at Landhi, Malir, Airport, the Drigh Road junction and Drigh Colony for hours without any apparent reason.

Thousands of passengers remained stranded at these stations where even water was not available. — PPI
