PESHAWAR, Aug 28: The NWFP governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has assured a traders delegation that the deadline of Aug 31 for the removal of encroachments would be extended to Sept 7, making it clear that no compensation would be paid to the encroachers whose buildings were demolished to widen the road network.

The governor said that the widening of roads and removal of encroachments was a principled decision which was taken in the best interest of the trading community and the general public.

He urged the traders to extend maximum cooperation to the government to ensure better civic facilities to the people.

However, he said, reasonable compensation was being paid to the people whose personal properties had been acquired to widen the road network.

The delegation was led by Ilyas Ahmad Bilour. The NWFP Minister for Industries and Commerce Mohsin Aziz was also present on the occasion.

The government is following a multi-pronged policy and has started the spadework to organize the flow of traffic in the metropolitan city, the governor said.
