Sports must look for crime: IOC

LAUSANNE (Switzerland), Aug 27: International Olympic Committee (IOC) vice-president Thomas Bach called on all winter sports Tuesday to make sure they were clean of organised crime after the Salt Lake City figure skating scandal.

Bach made the call at the first IOC meeting since an alleged mob figure was arrested in Italy last month charged with trying to fix the skating at the Salt Lake Games in February.

“This may hopefully be an individual case restricted to one event and one sport,” he told a meeting between the IOC’s ruling executive board and the heads of the Olympic winter sports federations.

“But we would be well advised to be very vigilant and see what happens in each of the sports. The IOC appreciates the contributions of everybody.”—Reuters
