Mediocre card drawn for Lahore races

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Aug 27: A mediocre card of five events has been drawn for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse Wednesday.

All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 800 metres. The first race will start at 3.00 pm.

The events comprise contestants belonging to class VII division V down to division VIII. These divisions in local racing parlance are called “ Kutchra (scrap) divisions”. The majority of runners are mediocre runners and need improvisation in their performance while some of them are just to make the fields.

The feature event, the Multan Plate class VII division V has exactly a dozen runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. If one keeps in view their recent performances and handicapping in view, three out of them should be in with chance. They are: Easy To Listen, Decent Fellow and Royal Man. The first two named have considerably come down in the weight-scales and are in a position to strike any time. The third Royal Man is in good form to make it a contesting event. They may fight it out to claim the honours in this fifth and last event of the day.

Again there are a dozen probable runners in the supporting and fourth event. Of them four look to be on chance, namely, Golden Star, Science Fiction, Blue Champion and Diva. Science Fiction and Blue Champion are owned by one owner. They all should decided about the winner.

In the third race Jonty Road and Fiji are the form acceptors among nine runners left in the field after scratching on Tuesday.

They should measure each other’s strides to get into winner’s box.

The opener has the largest field comprising 14 runners barring last-minute withdrawals. Among the form ones are: Candle Light, Love Land and Delta Song. Blessed and Copper Fields have come down in the handicap and placed low in this bottom division VIII, hence stand a chance, if the connections so desire. In such events punters usually avoid laying win betting and prefer place bets.
