Hepatitis-B claims 4 lives in Sahiwal

By Our Correspondent

SAHIWAL, Aug 27: At least four people, including a woman, died of hepatitis-B in and around the city during the last one week.

Those who lost their lives are: Kaneez Fatima (40) of Jhal Road, Khawar (13) of Chichawatni, Ahmed Din of Chak 78/5-R and Abdul Ghani of Chak 108/7-R.

Citizens have urged tehsil councils of Sahiwal and Chichawatni to replace the worn out water supply pipelines to save them from the epidemic.

The Punjab government had released Rs10 million grant for the replacement of damaged pipelines, but so far tehsil councils have done nothing in this respect.

AXED TO DEATH: A man on Monday axed to death the wife of his brother over a marriage issue in Chak 106/9-L.

Ghafoor had asked Amiran to marry her sister with him which she flatly refused for his bad behaviour.

Dera Rahim police have registered a case against the absconding accused.

INQUIRY ORDERED: The Punjab IGP on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the deaths of Maulvi Inayatullah and his maternal uncle Zafar Iqbal.

Six unidentified men had served intoxicants to Maulvi Inayat and his maternal uncle and then strangled them on June 9 last. Police had recovered their bodies from the upper storey of a house in Pull Bazaar on June 10. Later, at the beck and call of the influential outlaws police declared that they died due to excessive drinking. The post-mortem report had also confirmed that they were strangled. On the application of Falak Sher, the Punjab IGP ordered the probe.

Earlier, the Punjab governor had also directed the arrests of killers, but the police remained adamant.

GRANT RELEASED: The Punjab government has released a grant of Rs450 million for the salary of secretaries of union council and the lower staff.

The district nazimeen/DCOs were directed on Tuesday to distribute Rs60,000 per union council.
