Notification withdrawn

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Aug 27: Owing to the pressure mounted by teachers, the Punjab Education Department has finally withdrawn its notification on denationalization of educational institutions.

The department had issued the revised notification on July 8, allowing denationalization of 60 nationalized colleges in the province.

Two similar notifications, issued earlier on July 28, 1996, and Aug 17, 1999, did not allow the education department to denationalize the nationalized colleges because they (notifications) were education specific.

The department had, however, denationalized 53 schools in the province. There were 1,382 nationalized schools and 60 nationalized colleges in the province. by it,” said a senior department official.

Meanwhile, Lahore Bishop Dr Alexander John Malik says that they would move the court of law if the government did not denationalize the missionary institutions.
