KARACHI, Aug 27: The Sindh government has started distribution of Rs50,000 and a plot of 80 square-yards to each affectee of the Lyari Expressway project.

As per the approval of the PC-I of the project, Rs2871.652 million have been allocated for the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP).

The government, on the basis of a survey of the board of revenue, Sindh, and recommendation of the city district government Karachi, has also allocated land/plotting of 165 acres (4516 plots) in the Hawkesbay Housing Scheme 42, 145 acres (4,314 plots) in Baldia Town and 195 acres (6,501 plots) in Taiser Town scheme No 45 to accommodate and compensate the affectees of 14811 households and 1678 commercials units.

Relocations of 56 mosques and imam bargahs, coming in the way of the expressway, have also been made and the alternative land spaces and one hundred thousand rupees have been given to the management of Masjid-i-Khizra and Rabbani Mosque as construction cost, while efforts to provide suitable alternative land are on way for Rahmania Mosque and other mosques and imam bargahs.

The allotment of 683 plots has been completed after due survey and demarcation of sector No 9, sub-sector-C, in the Hawkesbay Housing Scheme, while the survey and demarcation process of section No 10 and remaining portion of section 9 is being carried out.

The water and electricity facilities are also being provided to the allotees in resettlement colonies on a permanent basis with immediate temporary arrangements of construction of community water tanks through Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

The government, with the collaboration of the city government, has launched an anti-encroachment operation and vacated/cleared the space from Mauripur bridge to Shershah bridge and from Shershah bridge to Mera Shah bridge on the right bank of the Lyari river. The structures between the Mauripur bridge and Lovelore bridge on other side of the river, which is about six kilometres, have also been got cleared.

The area of 600 meters from Rashid Minhas Road bridge to Sohrab Goth has also been vacated and handed over to the National Highway Authority (NHA), which is the executing agency to construct the expressway.

The government has also credited Rs300 million in the PLA of project directorate of the LERP, while Rs35 million have been provided to the LERP as bridge financing by the city government.—PPI
