HYDERABAD: Excessive charging of computer fee decried

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Aug 27: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has expressed surprise that most of Sindh college principals are still charging Rs1,000 computer fee in violation of the Sindh cabinet decision to reduce the fee to Rs500.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Secretary-General of the SPLA, Prof Liaquat Aziz, said the situation had created unrest among parents and students.

He appealed to the Sindh chief secretary to issue warning to the officials of the Education Department to ensure implementation of the cabinet decision and his own orders in this regard.

Prof Aziz said many colleges had not yet received marks sheets of intermediate and matriculation certificates with the result that thousands of students could not submit forms for entry test in medical colleges.

He pointed out that the last date to submit forms for entry test had been fixed at Aug 31 but this could not be complied with in absence of marks sheets and matriculation certificates.

He demanded to extend the date up to Sept 15 to enable the students to apply for admission in medical colleges.

TALUKA COUNCIL: The Hyderabad taluka city council, in its session here on Tuesday, demanded of the Sindh government not to charge any computer fee from college students.

The resolution to this effect was moved by Iqbal Kaimkhani, who demanded that the Sindh Education Department should either treat the Computer Science as an optional subject or the fee should be paid by the government itself.
