SAHIWAL, Aug 26: Ejectment notices were served on 68 tenants of the government maize farm, Iqbal Nagar, after declaring them defaulters here on Monday.

Cases have also been registered against them for the violation of Section 144 CrPC.

Those booked also include five dead persons — Walia, Mehr Din, Faiz, Muhammad Amin and Saeeda Masih.

The farm manager has converted the tenancy status to lease holders and declared 68 of them defaulters of Rs2.96 million for not sharing the crop produce with the government.

However, no arrest has so far been made.

ELECTION CAMPAIGN: PML (QA) president and former Punjab governor Mian Muhammad Azhar will launch his party election campaign from Noorshah on Sept 6.

This was disclosed by PML-QA’s provincial candidate Pir Muzaffar Shah Khagga here on Monday.

He said the candidatures of Mian Anwarul Haq Ramay, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf and Rai Azizullah for NA-160, NA-161 and NA-162 seats, respectively, were confirmed.

THREE KILLED: Three people were reportedly killed and four others injured on Monday evening in a clash between two rival groups over taking the possession of land in Chak 107/9-L.

Pehalwan and Khaliq sustained critical bullet wounds and died in a local hospital while the identity of another who died instantly could not be known. Similarly, the identity of four injured could also not be ascertained.

The armed clash occurred after the maghrib prayers and lasted for two hours. The matter was reported to Dera Rahim police who reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
