LAHORE, Aug 26: Federal Information Minister Nisar Memon has urged the youth to fully participate in the October elections to send good people in the assemblies.

Speaking to students of a local college here on Monday, he said the youth had been given the right of vote and now it was their duty to select those who could provide dynamic leadership to the country.

He asked the students to follow in the footsteps of the Quaid-i-Azam and shoulder the responsibility in developing the country. He also asked them to learn to differentiate between reality and propaganda.

Mr Memon said the government wanted to promote education. It could not achieve its objectives without the participation and cooperation of the private sector.

He said the focus of the Education Commission was to bring improvement in educational system. To increase the literacy rate was also one of the government’s top priorities.

He said only education could purge society of social corruption.

He stressed the teachers to deliver to the best of their level. He said students were reflection of their teachers.

Mr Memon said electronic and print media was enjoying complete freedom and the government had no intention to curb it.

He said the country was facing bankruptcy and threat of being labelled as a terrorist state but by the will of Allah, Pakistan got through all crises.

Mr Memon said the government introduced only necessary amendments to achieve its objectives. He said the restoration of democracy was the prime objective of the government that would be translated into reality on October 10.

Later, talking to newsmen he said the government would allow politicians to hold public meetings and procession when the law and order situation would be well in control.

He said President Gen Musharraf did not need votes from the future elected parliament to stay in power.

He regretted allegations from former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto that the army generals enjoyed financial benefits from the Afghan war.

Mr Memon said the government was not supporting any party and the election would be held fair and square.
