PSO to export fuel to US forces in Afghanistan

KARACHI, Aug 26: A state-run oil company said on Monday it would export jet fuel worth more than $15 million to US forces in Afghanistan by October, and that further contracts were in the pipeline.

“We have already exported a good quantity of JP-1 (jet fuel) to the US forces in Afghanistan and more consignments are to be dispatched,” Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Managing- Director Tariq Kirmani told reporters here.

The company was awarded the order after the Singapore subsidiary of Miami-based World Fuel Services (WFS) won an oil supply tender from the Defence Energy Support Centre (DESC) to cater for the fuel needs of US aircraft operating from Kandahar and Bagram air bases in Afghanistan, and Jacobabad in southern Pakistan.

“The WFS, whose Singapore office is our business partner, passed the fuel supply order to us and we are efficiently meeting our contractual obligations,” said PSO’s Syed Zahidul Hasan.

PSO has exported more than 34,000 tons of jet fuel to the DESC and it expects the volume to reach 60,000 tons before the contract expires in October.
