Karachi Port operations

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 26: Three ships carrying containers and crude oil are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage on Tuesday, according to KPT sources.

However, cargo handling activity will be affected at the port during the next couple of days because of heavy downpour in the city as dry cargoes could not be handled for fear of damage in the rain or their shifting to sheds.

The handling of liquid tonnage including crude oil and high speed diesel are not affected as the entire process is carried out through the pipelines, sources said.

Berthing activity at the wharves was modest as most of the new arrivals were allotted berths. They are Parvat, Mar Challenger, Trade Selene to unload and load containers, while as many are due to depart after completing their jobs.

The ships, which sailed out were led by Kota Intan, Emirate Star, Med Kelug and Johar, while Silver Bin, Kota Sijaya, Parvat, Good Hope and Conti Valencia are due to sail out on Tuesday.

Cargo handling activity was active as the total tonnage rose to 75,599 tons comprising 4,217 tons of export cargo and 71,382 tons of import tonnage.

The following ships are due on Tuesday: Bunga Masm Satu, APL Consta Rica, with containers and Titan Venus, with 6,500 tons of palm oil.
