KARACHI: Anti-mosquito spray planned

KARACHI, Aug 25: Sindh Chief Secretary K. B. Rind has asked the secretaries of health and local government to ensure concrete measures to help the people against seasonal diseases and insanitation.

At a meeting with a delegation of social workers here on Sunday, the chief secretary also issued instructions to the District Coordination Officer, City District Government Karachi, and the Managing Director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to take prompt action with regard to water supply and disposal of garbage and maintenance of sewerage system in the city.

The delegation presented him a report on the problems of water and sewerage, insanitation, unauthorized open garbage dumping system and transport problems. The delegation also drew the attention of the chief secretary to the problems caused by flies and mosquitoes in the city due to gutter overflows and unorganized garbage disposal.

He said the health department and the city government had prepared plans for vaccination and aerial spray of insecticides.

He added that arrangements were also being finalized to put into operation 300 imported spraying vehicles.

He, however, sought philanthropists’s help in welfare activities.— APP
