ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: The Central Zakat Council (CZC) on Saturday expressed its resentment over non-utilization of rehabilitation package by the provinces except Punjab.

The 86th council meeting, presided over by Supreme Court Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui expressed its concern over the amounts released under the rehabilitation package not having been fully utilized by the provinces other than Punjab. The chairman said the provinces had surrendered major portion of the amounts reflecting inefficiency and negligence.

He advised the provinces to ensure full utilization of funds under each sector.

The council also approved the second phase of the package to be launched with Rs5 billion out of the Zakat fund.

A five-member committee led by secretary-general Zakat was constituted to review the salient features of the scheme in the light of proposals of the provincial Zakat departments and formulate a consolidated proposal in 15 days.
