KARACHI, Aug 24: The Karachi Union of Journalists has condemned the officials of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation who manhandled the reporter of a newspaper, says a press release.
The press release adds that, in an emergency meeting, the executive council of the KUJ on Saturday passed a resolution condemning those KESC officials who beat up the reporter of The Nation, Aziz Sanghur.
It says: “The resolution, moved on a report by Mr Sanghur, urged the police authorities to direct the police station concerned to register a criminal case against the KESC managing director and Col Mushtaq for abusing and beating the reporter, and Sultan, PRO, for conspiring the whole drama to humiliate the reporter.”
The press release adds that the KUJ also urged the chief justice of the Sindh High Court to take suo motu action against the KESC officials involved in the incident.
It says: “The KUJ urged President Pervez Musharraf to take notice of the immoral, unethical and non-professional activity of the officials of the KESC at the earliest.
“The executive council also decided to convene an extended meeting of the KUJ next week to chalk out future course of action against the said officials.”
