Allana advance to second phase


KARACHI, Aug 23: Pakistan’s Allana entered in the second phase of the qualifying round of the World Bridge Championship at Montreal (Canada) according to a message received Friday.

Allana remained unbeaten till they faced the leaders of the Group Maas, a team from Netherlands, who exhibited much convincing performance.

When the play resumed for the seventh round, Allana quite confidently faced Aagaard, who gave them some surprises, but Allana managed 17-13 points victory.

In the seventh round both the top teams faced each other, Maas kept their unbeaten record intact when they registered a 26-20 VP victory.

However, Allana, comprising A. Rehman Allana, Nishat Abedi, Jane-e-Alam Fazil, Sultan Siddiqui and Rashid Jafer bounced back in the last match of the qualifying round defeating South African team Cope 63-0 21 IMP, thus netting 24 V.P, conceding 6 V.P. eliminating Cope from the qualifying stage.

Following are the results of the last three rounds:

7th Round: Meitzer vs Cope 13-17, Summers vs Fradette 25-23, Allana vs Aagaard 17-13, Maas vs Lewaclak 23-07, Kaufimann vs Rossel 22—8.

8th Round: Meitzer vs Lewaclak 23-7, Summers vs Aagaard 15-15, Cope vs Rousell 25-5, Kaufimann vs Fradette 22-8, Mass vs Allana 20-10.

9th Round: Allana vs Cope 24-6, Mass vs Meitzer 15-15, Lewaclak vs Rousel 25-02, Summers vs Kaufinann 20-10, Aafaard vs Fradette 21-09 VP.

Final Standing: Maas 181.3, Allana 174, Meitzer 156, Aagaard 150, Cope 141, Kaufmann 137, Summers 132, Lewaclack 114, Fradete 69.3 and Rousell 67 V.P.—APP
