ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) has rejected the constitutional amendments announced by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, saying that the move would retard the democratic process in the country.

The party’s advisory committee held a meeting here on Friday, which was presided over by the party’s chief, Sardar Khalid Ibrahim.

Participants said a presidential system had been adopted for all practical purposes, in which there was no place for supremacy of the elected parliament.

The party leaders were of the view that the amendments were undemocratic.

They said that the Kashmir movement was in a crucial phase and could be affected by an unconstitutional and undemocratic attitude of the Pakistan government.—PPI
